Great Reasons To Exercise While You’re Pregnant

Pregnancy is a special time, and while you’re growing a small human, it’s important to look after yourself. However, while you need to take a bit of extra care, for the majority of women this doesn’t mean resting up for the full nine months. Here are some great reasons to exercise while you’re pregnant.

You’ll probably have a better delivery

If you are active during the pregnancy, you stand a much better chance of the birth going smoothly. Research has shown that mothers who exercise regularly lower the risk of a forceps delivery by 75% and an episiotomy by 55%. They are also four times less likely to need a Caesarian so it’s good news all round.

It lowers your risk of pre-eclampsia

Preeclampsia is a dangerous condition that can strike during pregnancy causing protein in the urine and high blood pressure. Pre-eclampsia is also the main cause of babies being born prematurely. Approximately 5-8% of women develop pre-eclampsia during pregnancy but you can lower your risk by taking regular exercise.

It provides health benefits to your unborn baby

As well as helping you to stay fitter, it seems that if you exercise, the unborn baby’s system gets a boost too. Regular exercise makes your heart stronger, but it will do the same to your unborn infant. Babies who were born to women who exercised during pregnancy had stronger hearts and a better cardio endurance level. These benefits lasted some time into childhood.

As well as exercising, it is important to rest while you’re pregnant too; it’s all about getting the right balance. A great way to take it easy is to enjoy a good book and you’ll find a fabulous selection online at www.chosengo.com.
