Facing Your Fears Through Sport

Everybody is afraid of something, and there’s no shame in that whatsoever. Be it a fear of heights, water, the dark, insects, or anything else, there comes a time when you must face and conquer those fears. Although it may sound unconventional, sports are a great way to face your fears, and here are three sports that can help you do it.

Rock climbing. Not only is rock climbing a great workout and a whole lot of fun, but it’s a wonderful way to get over a fear of heights. Indoor bouldering could be a great way to begin for those who wants to start small, and once you’re ready to tackle the real heights, the safety and security of a harness will go a long way in making it easier.

Scuba diving. Water is a tough one for a lot of people, and the idea of swimming could be a tough barrier to break. If holding your breath while swimming from point A to point B isn’t for you, scuba diving could provide a fun and interesting alternative. The security that comes from an oxygen tank could be just what the doctor ordered to face that fear of water, and the spectacular views scuba diving offers will certainly go a long way as well.

Team sports. For some people fears don’t come in the form of heights or water, for some it’s social anxiety that puts a damper on everyday experiences. Team sports are a great way to face those fears, as there’s nothing quite like a friendly competition to bring people together.
